Decent School Districts in Tri-State (NJ/NY/CT) Areas

We just moved to the areas recently and would really like to know which district or county has good schools.

We are willing to move anywhere in the greater tri-state regions (NJ/NY/CT) for our DD to get a better schooling.

We don't know where and how to start with. Any websites or books on what schools in a district and their ratings?

Actually, any suggestion on where/how to research on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what area you are moving from, but wanted to let you know that NJ is all town school districts vs county. Most realtors can give you information and most papers there have yearly school ratings reports. Try The Record (Bergen County), the Star Ledger (Newark/Essex County based), and the Daily Record (Morris County based). I'll see if I am able to dig anything further up, but thought this might be helpful.

I understand that most realtors can provide me the information but I guess I need to find out what county or town has good schools first before I start contacting realtors in that area, does it work that way? Or I can just inquire the information without knowing where I wanna move to?

I guess I didn't phrase that well. Each town has its own school district. You occasionally have a regional school, but typically not in the more populated suburbs. In NJ I would look primarily at Bergen and Morris Counties. Both have a lot of nice areas, good school districts in most towns, and lots of public transportation into the city for working (used it for years ;-)). I am still looking for some info online and will post if I can find some. I moved to another state and we have county school districts and no public transport, both of which are a huge change for me.

- Millburn (Essex County)
- Glen Ridge (Essex County, Near Montclair)
- Livingston (Essex County)
- Westfield (Union County)
- Summit (Morris County)
- Chatham (Morris County)

New Jersey Magazine had ratings of the best schools in NJ this past fall. I'm sure it got a lot of press, so you can Google it and definitely find out what's up.

Thank you so much for the info, I will certainly check those area out. BTW, do you mean New Jersey Life Magazine? I tried to serach for New Jersey Magazine but it shows up as NJ Life.

I think the NY State Dept of Ed issues report cards for schools each year. If you can't find anything on their web site, you might check the NY Times. I think they pubish this sort of info for NY schools in their Education supplement once each year.
