Default Storyland in Glen, NH -best lodging for a young family??

We're planning a weekend in July to visit Storyland and also the Day out with Thomas in North Conway and wondered if anyone could recommend a place to stay?

Our boys will be 3 and 20 months and we'd like a place geared towards kids, have a pool, maybe family suites so that dh and I can hang out in an ajoining room after the kids fell asleep, etc..

    Thanks, Kelly

    Hi Kelly,

I haven't been myself, but know some others who have. After some research, one friend decided to go to The Grand summit in Bartlett, at the foot of Attitash Mountain. Here's what she said (before she went though):

"It's a really nice place with a lot of ammenities including fitness center, pub and grill, a year round outdoor heated pool. Must be nice skiing season. People are swimming at the base of the mountain while others are skiing.

"They have a 1 BR that will work for us because the LR has a pull out couch, kitchen, and then the BR (Queen or King bed), also has a TV. So we can put the kids down to sleep in the LR and still hang out in the BR w/a tv. It ended up costing about $200/night, which includes breakfast. A friend has stayed here and recommended it."

When she was doing her research, she emailed me info on the following other places (this was all for a trip last June):

Prices are estimates for mid june; more expensive in the summer. If you have AAA, some will give you 10% discount.

Luxury Mountain Getaways - 1 and 2 BR Condos very close to storyland. 2nd br units have br's on separate levels with a difficult spiral staircase, but once twins are a little older - excellent place to stay or stay in a 1BR(4 people max).
    1 BR units $165/night
    2 BR units $195/night

Red Jacket Inn on the hill - $129 STD Room, can get connecting rooms and book 2 rooms. or they have family units with Loft or alcove. Loft ok for older kids; alcove room too small for 2 pack n plays. I think the loft and alcove rooms were around $239/night. refridgerator, but no kitchen. Has restaurant; extra for breakfast. In No.Conway

    Lodge at Jackson Village

$119-139/std room per night, can get connecting rooms and book 2 rooms.
refridgerator, but no kitchen. complimentary coffee/pastries in am.
    2 miles from storyland

Eagle Mountain House- large country inn, great breakfast buffet. Nice rooms, but small. Ask for 1st floor because it has easy access to big country porch. Heated pool. 5 minutes from storyland.

    Suites and standard rooms.

I'd love to take the kids some time this summer and I plan on checking these out.

    Good luck!

We have been going to Storyland the last 2 Summers (going again this year) and we have stayed in Nordic Village both times (PP listed it in her list under Luxury Mountain Getaways). The propery is located practically across the street from StoryLand. They have nightly activities - clown, magician, etc. There are 2 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. In addition you have a full kitchen. We always have breakfast in the room and sometimes even make dinner rather than getting the kids to behave in a restaurant after a long day.

We have been going with my brother's family and renting the 2 bedroom unit. With the 2 bedroom we have 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Plus each floor has a living room with a pull out sleep sofa and TV. One unit has a full kitchen the other has a kitchentte. There is also a washer and dryer in the unit. THe 2 bedroom units have an internal staircase, but each unit can be locked separately.

This year we are going with the grandparents as well and staying in Nordic Highlands. Basically the same just a bit nicer amenities.

    Have fun!

Thank you!! I really appreciate yours posts with all the great information.

We found a 4 bedroom/2 bath house for rent on craigslist a 5 minute drive away from storyland that we'll share with our friends. I think it will be easy for us adults to hang out after the kids are asleep being in the same place and the extra room inside and outside should be more comfortable too.

These are all great posts - just what we are looking for too! The Nordic suites/townhouses are exactly what we need.

Not to highjack, but we are driving from about 10hrs away. Are there other things to do down there, other than StoryLand? Good sightseeing/attractions that would be interesting for a 5yo and 2yo?

    Thanks!
