We'll be on the train (coach) for 18 hours, including an overnight each way. DS is 3 and DD is 9 months. Please tell me it won't be terrible! Where should they sleep? Any other suggestions for train travel?
Thanks
Natalie

Will you have a sleeping birth or just seats? If you just have seats you are probably going to be a bit miserable. But on the good side its only one night each way!
ETA: take your own snacks, food, and drink if at all possible. The lines for the snack car are often long and prices high. If your train will have a dining car you may want to eat breakfast there as I have heard that is usually reasonably priced. When I traveled cross country I took small cans of tuna fish, snack crackers, sandwiches, etc.

Try to upgrade your tickets to a high class if possible. I was stuck in regular class on a train ride and the whole car smelled like that bathroom. It was terrible.
