The tail on mine was about 1/2 an inch long before I cut it down to just over 1/8 of an inch. Maybe yours was from a different mold?

Karen, same here. I've never had to cut mine either. I'd have to look at it to see how long it is, but it's not terribly long. Petra, mine definitely isn't a half-inch. I wonder if they did change them or something.
