Default Okay, this is a Diva Cup TMI...

So, I finally got a Diva Cup. It is sooo terrific. I pulled up all the old posts I could find about it, while I waited for AF to finally arrive. (Probably the first time in my life I actually *wanted* to start :) ) I was able to insert if fine, but even with it inserted to the right depth and with a good seal, I found that it migrated upwards at night, and despite the fact that the cup was barly half full, I leaked. (I can't belive I'm tying this. *Blush*) I also found that when I wiped, I was still getting traces of blood on the tissue. Did any of you have anything similiar?

I also found that my period lasted for 7-8 days, the first 4 being my usual heavy, and the last 3 or so being pretty light. I had read the when using the Diva Cup, usually the flow shortened. Does it just take a while for the cycles to sync? Will it work better next time?

    Thanks!

I had a one-cycle learning curve with the Diva. By the second period, I had the hang of it. I've never had leaks, but have discovered mama cloth, and would not hesitate to use that at night as a backup if needed. But more likely it's a positioning thing, and you'll get the hang of it with more practice.

I love my Diva cup too, but I have never been totally leakproof. I use velour liners during the day, and mama pads (from DaisyGirlDesigns) at night to back up the Diva. So I haven't been able to just use the Diva.

Unlike many others, I have never had my flow shorten or lighten since using the Diva (about 9 months now). Since DS, my flow has been very heavy and just as many days as before. Switching to the Diva and mama cloth have not changed this at all. (I think the fact that it's so heavy contributes to my needing something there to back it up.) I mostly like the Diva and mama cloth because I used to get rashes by the end of my AF (used pads before, or mini pads as backup to tampons) from the pads. I love the fact that I can just throw the Diva in its bag into my purse or travel bag when AF is expected so I'm always ready to go without having to pack up all kinds of supplies.

There was definitely a learning curve for me, probably 2 cycles. I always use mama pads as a backup--I have a bunch of liners form MomandMe that I use pretty much every day, including during my cycle an it works quite well.

For me, I used to have 2-3 days of really heavy flow, followed by 4-7 days of light dribbles. Now, it's usually one heavy day, one medium day, and maybe 4-6 dribbles. It took a couple cycles for me to notice this difference.

Once it's inserted, try rotating it a bit, maybe a half-turn to get a better "seal." That was the trick to make mine leak-proof.

My cycle is definitely shorter and less painful with it. Though much heavier on the first 'full' day.
