Kira Paige arrived July 30th at 9:01pm after a brief 2 hour labor and only 20 minutes at the birthing center! We had gone out to dinner and Ken said he wanted chocolate chip cookies. I had preheated the oven and was mixing the batter when I felt a small gush. I didn't really think my water had broken, but thought it was leaking. We started timing contractions and they were 6 minutes apart. I called my doula and told her what was going on and that the contractions were in my back. She gave me a birthing ball position to try and after about 5 contractions at 6 minutes apart, I felt the baby flip over and the contractions were now at 2 minutes apart. We called our nanny for Alia, and called the doula back to tell her we would meet her at the birthing center. By the time we left the house it was around 8:20 and we had a 20 minute drive to the birthing center. We arrived, I went to L&D, was at 8cm. Had a few contractions and was at 9cm. The OB prepped and what felt like seconds later said, "OK, we're going to have a baby!" I almost said "um, yeah, that's why I'm here!" But I didn't realize she meant, you are at 10cm, and can push now :-) They put the blanket down next to me (I was side laboring) and I asked what it was for - they told me I was good to push when I felt the urge! I couldn't believe it! I pushed 3 times and out arrived little Kira Paige at 7 pounds 7 ounces and 20 inches long.
She is now 10 days old and doing very well! She's giving me a 4 hour stretch in between nursing sessions at night and Alia is beside herself with glee :-) Alia has been fantastic - and loves to dote on Kira and shower her with affection.
I just wanted to share our good news! Many here were so supportive during our 2 miscarriages, and I wanted to share our happy outcome.
Here are a few pics!
