Default carrier options for 2 week old?

Now that I am an experienced mother of 2 weeks! (yeah right!) We are realizing how much I am getting cabin fever. My DH and I love the outdoors and realized we need to get out and go to the park. My DD is already exposed to the outdoors, not the malls.

Is there a decent carrier for the outdoor enthusiasts before the backpack at around 6 months of age when she can hold her head up? The book talks about the Bjorn, but we don't have outdoor clothes for her. Plus outdoor clothes is for when they are over 3 months old.

any suggestions? is the Bjorn the only choice?

    Thanks,
    Lisa

No, there are plenty of other choices - have you read through the posts here? I'd also suggest looking at www.babywearing.com and www.kangarookorner.com for photos and reviews of different carriers.

I'm not sure what you mean by outdoor clothes though - what kind of clothes do you need to take her outside in the spring/summer?

I will have to check out the sites you suggested. Thanks.

We live in Washington State, and the weather is very predictiable cold and rainy. The best time to go out and explore is when the weather is never to your advantage.

I have not purchased any "outdoor" clothes for the baby. She is only 2 weeks old. And we are finding right now, nothing fits her!

I know the weather will be better in about a month, so really, I guess outdoor clothes might not be an issue.

    Lisa,
Sounds like a KKAFP (Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Fleece Pouch) in your kind of weather would be perfect.

Hi! :) We used a fleece pouch w/ ds since he was 3 days old and it's a great option for a newborn on up-- the bjorn isn't good for babes too young (and there are better front carriers when babe is older, in my opinion-- like a kozy or another type of asian-style baby carrier; http://www.kozycarrier.com).

DS loved being all squished up in the pouch when we went for our walks and would just sleep the whole time :) It's also nice since the material is deep enough to cover babe up completely and not need to wear a jacket or heavy sweater or anything.

Here's a pic of ds in the pouch @ 3 days old--

You can put a blanket under babe to hold her up, ds looks a little lost in there, but had a great time (snoring)

and here's one of ds at 3 months--

just came out of a sudden Berkeley rain

Pouches are great since wou can put a (big) coat on over them, extra insulation. :) Just depends on how big baby is! I wore another pouch to the redwood nat'l forest recently, and we went on some nice trails no problem--

Mine's a pea in a pod from mom-and-me creations (http://www.momandmepouch.com), but Jen the owner is going thru some tough times w/ her son's illness & isn't making them right now (but will likely start again as her son's illness improves)... You may be able to find one on babywearingswap http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BabywearingSWAP or the swap board at http://www.thebabywearer.com though-- they're my fav since it's not too heavy. A kkafp (http://www.kangarookorner.com) might be good too for your weather; I've only used mine 3x since it's a little warm for me even in Berkeley.

    good luck! nak
