Default Just got my MNM pouch! UPDATE (long)

It was the "Red Hot Momma" that Jen had on ebay last week, and it is *beautiful*! I've never used a pouch before, only a Bjorn-type sling, so this is all new to me.

I think I picked a bad time to try DS in it - right before dinner, and cranky pants wanted nothing to do with it. I'll try again tomorrow when we go out for errands. It seems like a great tool for carrying a larger baby/toddler in, but when I used one of DS's larger stuffed animals to see what it would be like with a smaller being (since we are TTC #2 now), it seemed to swallow the stuffed animal right up!

For those mommas who have a MNM or similar pouch, is this ok for your newborns, or is there a better way to wear it so that there's not so much material covering the babe? I looked at her website for some help, but the pics there really didn't show me what I wanted to see, and didn't want to bother Jen with my questions.

UPDATED: We went to PetSmart and the mall this afternoon in an attempt to waste time waiting to pick up our sick kitty at the vet and also to test-drive the pouch. It worked *GREAT*! DS loved being up high and loved being carried (as usual)! We got some looks, but no one made any comments. Outside of Bjorns and the like, carriers are not the norm in these parts, so I was expecting more attention (but then I remembered I live in New England, where most people just keep to themselves!). It took me a few minutes to get the fit right, as DS's pants kept bunching up and he as wriggly at first and nearly slipped out. Once I got the pouch under his bum to his knees, he did great. It also worked great for us at the vet's, as we went in at a really busy time and there were all these large dogs and a bunch of people milling around waiting to be helped. DS would've wanted to run around and touch all the dogs, but instead he was happy to get to look down on them all as they reached up to lick his outstretched hand - so cute! The funny thing was that one of the guys waiting for his dog was very interested in the pouch. He asked me how it was made and was impressed with the construction. He said he was the oldest of 8 kids (egads!) and something like this would've really helped him growing up, as he helped out a lot with his siblings (I found that sad, but touching at the same time).

Anyhow, I am looking forward to using it on our trip to Seattle at Christmas time. We plan to do as much sightseeing as we are able, so hopefully DS will cooperate and enjoy his new ride!

Ooh, you have one gorgeous pouch.

With a smaller babe, you can pull up the slack on the side next to your body if you want to make the pouch more shallow. Hope that makes sense...

I can very easily do tummy to tummy and hip carry with my almost 11 month old.

    Jen's pouches are the best!

What a pretty pouch-- I saw it on ebay and was drooling! (even though I have one already!)

My mnm was my 1st pouch since K was born-- we used it even today :) At 3 days, he was lost inside the pouch, but actually liked it. He would snuggle in and snore away. I *did* get a lot of questions from people saying "is he okay in there?" (of course he was, he was snoring)... And I would lways check inside on him to make sure he wasn't covered (the fabric kinda made a taco around him, with a pouch of open space over his body-- he never liked to sleep turned on his side but slept on his back).

I asked Jen the same questions though-- I was worried that the fabric over him would be bad somehow. She recommended a rolled up receiving blanket under babe to prop him up, and also bringing up the back rail up (so it makes the front rail shorter, this was the rail that kinda flopped over babe when he was inside). I never did either, since my son liked being all snuggled in and wrapped up, but either/both would help reduce the fabric that may go over babe.

He did plump up rather quickly though, so I didn't really have to worry about the excess fabric for very long.

Good luck! I'm sure your older babe will love it as well-- K still loves his, and now that it's getting chillier here, I am wearing it much more than just a month ago.

We used ours from birth, and it was great! Still is, and now its cool enough to use it again after a summer hiatus. My DS never liked the cradle position that quikeye describes, he just fussed. But, he loved tummy to tummy and still does, 8 mo later. Likes the hip carry, too!
