Default OK for forward facing in Mei Tai?

After many many sling attempts (DS ONLY liked the Bjorn for awhile even though we tried the Maya wrap, Maya pouch, Zolo ring sling, Zolo pouch, Hotsling, and KKAFP--still need to work on selling all of those!), he's finally happy in a BabyHawk Mei Tai. But he's starting to like facing out instead of facing in. Is it okay to have him facing out in a Mei Tai? The directions I have show how to put it on your front and have DC facing inward and how to put it on your back with DC facing your back, but can you also use it like the Bjorn with the baby on your front facing out?

Up until now DS usually falls asleep and so facing in has been preferable, but he's starting to look at the world a bit more.

    Thanks for your help.

This is probably not the most helpful answer (so sorry in advance)... but I started looking around www.thebabywearer.com site for info and couldn't find anyone doing a front carry w/ baby facing out in an MT. (I've just placed an order for an MT, so my interest was definitely piqued).

It might be a great question to ask in the forum there if no one here has an answer.

If I turn anything else up, I'll add an update.

Ack ack ack. Clearly, I didn't explore quite enough:
    http://www.kozycarrier.homestead.com/instructions.html

There's a link to front carry facing out:
    (or http://www.kozycarrier.homestead.com...html#anchor_63)

Just to quote from her page:
"I don't think this type of carrier was designed to use with your little one front facing out. But it can be done and is possible to do without leaving them to hang from the crotch. Personally I don't find it as comfy as the standard back carry or the front facing in, but some parents and babies love it."

    So, hope this helps more.

    Hi Tamar,

Thanks for checking. I was going to google it myself but thought it would take too long to find (somehow I never find things quickly), but later I found this link too:
    http://www.slingtastic.ca/Slings/TieWrap/wrapuseage.htm

It doesn't look all that comfortable though! The Mei Tai is pretty neat though (and horrors--I do have a Baby Bjorn active and maybe I'll use that for facing out and the Mei Tai for facing in or the back). I'll give it a shot. DS might be too young though for the leg crossing--I've tried that before without much luck.

    Good luck with your carrier!

There are a lot of warnings out there against wearing a baby front facing out. But many kids love it early on (my dd wouldn't have anything but), and the phase is over soon. I used a Kozy for it, and loved it because it's width made sure that she was well supported. It wasn't the most comfortable carry for me, but hey, as long as she was happy.

I think people advise against wearing your baby facing out in an MT. But there are some MTs that are made so that you can carry your baby facing out.

    Try meitaibaby.com and http://happyslings.com/
These 2 MTs have narrower crotch area, so the legs can go out.

Here is a link to a discussion on TBW: http://www.thebabywearer.com/forum/v...facing+mei+tai

    and

    http://www.thebabywearer.com/forum/v...facing+mei+tai

The Nine Acres convert. MT concept is a bit like Lovewraps Tai One On - but the Tai One On is a long strap that you have to tie yourself. I have had great success carrying DS facing out in our Tai One On. I'll post a pic.

Fo the facing out "thing" its important for baby to have their egs in a frog like/seated type position. There is a link to an article about this on TBW - I have to find it and post it - but that position is easiest to get in a wrap. I have used the fron facing out in our FH mei tai and find my wraps and tai one on to be much m ore comfortable for this type of carry.
