How Do You Know What Generation Ergo Baby Carrier You Have?

I just purchased an Ergo Baby Carrier from www.theportablebaby.com when they were having a quick clearance sale. I got it for $72 shipped! YEAH!

It's blue with the seersucker lining. While watching the video I noticed that mine only has one D ring on the right shoulder, while the ones in the video have D rings on both shoulders as well as under the armpits so you can hook on the hood to the lower ones while not using and the top ones while using.

Mine does have a snap on both shoulders though and I can easily snap the hood straps on.

Is this a defect or is mine just a different generation than the ones in the instructional video?

I'm pretty sure the seersucker is a new limited edition one, so it's probably newer than the video.

The seersucker lining is a New Generation Ergo. However, they just came out with a newer style New Generation Ergo in July 2007 which has some simple changes.


1. CHEST STRAPS & RUNNER - The chest straps are now permanently
attached to the shoulder straps with a "runner", and will keep
the chest strap in it's desired location so it won't need
readjusting each time the carrier is taken on and off, also eliminates losing the straps, Runners are dyed to match the carrier, enhancing overall look.
2. HOOD & HOOD STRAPS - The hood straps are shorter and snap
directly onto the shoulder straps. The hood has elastic, to
provide more length due to the shorter straps and will "cup"
around the baby's head more.
3. NEW BOX! - The carrier, front pouch, backpack and infant insert
will come in a new ERGO box.

Hmmm, that might be the one I have. It came with an old video showing the old style, but the straps for the hood aren't long enough to attach to to the lower sides, in fact there aren't any d-rings on the lower straps to attach them. You just tuck them in the front pocket.

I'm not sure about the chest strap. I know you can remove it if you want to do the hip carry but it's on there pretty well, but it is adjustable so you can move it up or down if you are wearing baby in the front vs the back.

The box-It was a nice box with a carry handle. Is that the new box?

Yes- according to TBW, the newest version comes in a box. All other versions were in a bag.

Wow! Then I feel like I got a great deal. I paid $72 shipped for the new generation. That's great. I can't wait to use it.

Yep, you got a great deal! I believe the Portable Baby is discontinuing their relationship with ERGO, hence the sale. Otherwise Ergo doesn't allow sales.
