Default Hard mesh bag for beach?

We have been to the beach twice and my regular mesh bag is not doing its job. On our last trip, I noticed a family leaving with a "hard" mesh bag (looked like it would stand straight and stiff if put down empty) carrying all of their sand toys. I almost asked where they bought it, but my DH convinced me not to do that. So . . . does anyone know what I'm talking about and where I could find one for our next trip? TIA!

I have the Special Whale Bag by Saltwater Canvas, that sounds like what you're describing. It's a high-quality strong mesh bag with lots and LOTS of pockets, strong handles, key clip, and it stands up straight on its own. I bought it through a co-op we had last year, they were under $30. I've been super happy with it and use it for all our trips.

The Whale Bag is really big, I think it will hold like 8 adults towels or something like that. The site is pretty descriptive.

    Hope this helps!

Oh poo...I had just gotten my mind off those silly bags! Now I just might have to order one! I am such a sucker for a bag (and shoes!)

Can't dedide whether to order a regular one or one from their "yard sale". They've reduced the price right now and there's only $6 difference. Having said that, it's probably a better deal to get one 1st quality!

This one is not hard mesh, but it is oilcloth and may stand up pretty good for you.

    Mariana,

You mentioned you ordered from a co-op. I went to their website and noticed that they also have a "yard sale" page. This special whale bag (the biggest one) is on sale for about $27, it's about $6 cheaper on the yard sale page. Do you think there's that much difference? The yard sale page says that the stitching may not be perfect but doesn't affect the function on the bag. Can't decide which one to order. If I did the yard sale one, that money saved would pay for the postage...not sure if it'd be better to have 1st quality. What do you think since you have one of these???

Sorry to ramble, time for bed!!

Just want to mention that I love my whale bag too. It's also supposed to be mold-free, which is a big bonus!

Is yours 1st quality or "yard sale"? I think I'd LOVE the bag. How much can you actually pack into it? I get tired of putting a couple of towels in my bag and then having to carry the rest.

    Thanks

I was checking out these bags too. Does anyone know if the regular whale bag or the extra large one would be the best choice? I like the look better of the regular one, but dont know if would be big enough.

We joined a pool, and I have a 4 year old and a very active 2 year old boy! Sometimes I will go alone, so really need a bag i can carry everything.. which would be:

    a blanket (maybe)
    about 4 towels
    change of clothes
    snacks
    diapers/wipes
    suncream
    a few toys
    small cooler bag

I was thinking of getting a Lands End or LL Bean large tote (i'd like to get our name embroidered). The Lands End one has 4 inner pockets which would be nice, but the LL Bean ones have longer handles. I was thinking the whale bags might be better though, because I can put all our wet towels in it when leaving, rather than carrying them out of the bag. (yesterday I bought my huge vera bradley bag and defintely didn't want wet towels in it!).

    Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks!

I'm not sure which one I have, but it's pretty huge. I don't take lots of items, but I do take a hard basket w/handles with 5 sandtoys in it, two oversized towels, sunscreen (in the outer pockets), my keys on the clips and a diaper and wipes. I could still fit a little bit more in there, but I like that the sandtoys fit inside the bag! One less thing to carry while walking with my toddler.

The one we got was called "special whale bag".
