Default Umbilical Stump - still holding after 7 weeks

I need help! My daughter's umbilical stump is still very much attached after 7 weeks! We use rubbing alcohol on the base of it at every diaper change and her pediatrician put silver nitrate on it at her 1 month visit. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions??????

My sister-in-law had the same problem around 6 weeks. Her doctor did the silver nitrate twice and also cut some slits into it to help it. She found out at her one month check up that she was not being aggressive enough with the cleaning at each diaper change. They do not have feeling there so really, I mean REALLY get in there with the alcohol. You can't hurt it. She has to really clean it pretty hard.

    Hope this helps!

My daughter's stayed on for 8 weeks. At 7 weeks the ped did the silver nitrate and said call me if it's not off in a week...well, it took exactly a week to come off.

BTW, when it came off, it was still oozing a little, which surprised me. It looked sort of like an open sore which I was not expecting. The nurse said it was normal.

If it's been 3 weeks since the ped has seen it, I would give them a call!

    Good luck!
