It's a great idea but I've never done it.

A quick search came up with this though and it seems fairly simple:

http://www.moultriega.com/kids/crafts/ps.htm this one has a bunch of cool ideas as well

We had ours done by an artist at a department store. She comes every year at Christmas or Mother's Day. She did it all free handed. It was so amazing! We had Katherine sit in a chair and she just got the scissors and started snipping away! She had tri-folded the paper and so we got 3 silhouettes. We kept one for ourselves and gave one to my mom and one to DH's dad. It was very inexpensive. I think I was able to get 3 for $30. We then had them framed and gave them to the grandparents for Christmas!

I am going to check out the threads mentioned above. Good luck!

I thought about doing this too. I think the www.shmonster.com suggestion of taking a photograph is the best option for wiggly little babies. There's just no way they'd hold still long enough to do the light/shadow technique! :) Now if I can just get DD to hold still long enough to take a profile picture...
