When I saw that, I thought it was really cute, too. It's a bit hard to tell, but the side of the dress is completely open (so you need to wear something underneath).

If I were to make this dress as a dress (which I considered), I would try to change it to a slipover dress with a back opening or something. I just thought that the pic in the knitty mag is a bit deceiving...
