Default Stenciling on baby furniture surface? Stencil Sites?

Can stenciling be done directly on the surface of finished baby furniture?

Do you have any favorite stenciling sites you would like to share?

    Thanks a bunch!

    Hi Krisa,

congrats on your baby girl! i have done some stentciling on furniture, but found it to be difficult and ended up painting freehand. turned out to be much easier than i thought it would be!

i bought stenciling supplies from Michaels. i found a bunch of themes (stars, sun, etc.) and also cut my own designs. i bought acryllic paints from #### blick (http://www.dickblick.com/). they were super helpful when i ordered paints/brushes, etc. i can try to dig up a picture of the dresser i painted if you'd like to check it out.

are you painting wood? it is a lot of fun!

    Hi Rowan's Mama,

You sound very talented! I would love to see the pic of the dresser you painted - I find them so inspirational!

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    hi krisa,

here are a couple of pictures of the dresser. we did a distressed finish to an old, ratty dresser- what you see is the top which i painted some art inspired by Otto Seybold. it works well with a changing pad on top.

if you use latex paint for surface painting, you probably want to have someone else do it. i think the acryllic paint is safe when pg. let me know if you need any more help! have fun!

Wow, no way could I do that!

I was going to ask the same question as I would love to do some stencilling on my dd's white furniture set. Why didn't it work out?

Kris, i am assuming you mean why the stencilling didn't work out for me? i found it to be a pain in the a$$ to cut out the acetate for the illustrations, specially with details like the fish bubbles. i guess if i had all day...but even then i wouldn't do it. i did try to be patient with the process after reading some stencilling books, which lasted through one graphic. also the paint bled through the stencil (maybe, i didn't do it right). so i decided that was it for me! by then, i had gotten over my irrational fear of messing things up...it was old piece of furniture, i rationalized that was already looking better. i did have a few areas where i repainted the base coat as it didn't work as well.

Krisa, good luck! glad you liked the pics.
