Need some type of "clear" protectant

Here's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to mount large (12x18) photos onto a piece of foam board. I mounted them with some spray adhesive which worked fine but then i used a Krylon clear matte spray to "protect" it. Now the photos look like they have a layer of fine "dust" all over them and aren't as sharp as they had been.

Can anyone recommend something else that can be used as a protectant over something like that? We'll re-do the pictures again tomorrow at Costco.

Ok, First, how long do you intend for this to be protected? If this is meant to be a long term protection, I don't think that is the best method.
If it only needs to last a short while, and you save the original I would try to find a clear spray with a sheen. Satin or semigloss. You may want to test it on a smaller print first, before you pay to have a bigger more expensive print made again.

What about clear contact paper? That might be a PITA to get all the bubbles out. I did that for a school project and I remember being very frustrated. Of course it was in middle school.

Or a sheet of clear plexi-glass type stuff (from Home Depot or Lowe's) cut to the same size as the foam board? You could run a thin bead of clear-drying glue around the edge to secure it.

I thought about clear contact paper but remember the bubbles from school projects! Plexiglass is a good idea..i might check that out.

Thanks for your suggestions! I would like the item to be protected for a few years probably; the items being protected are digital print outs, so I do have copies available elsewhere. I should test it with a 4x6 before I do my entire project, 18x24!
