Default Do you buy fabric online? If so where?

The nearest (non-boutique) place to buy fabric is about an hour away so online shopping is looking better and better. Do you have a good source?

I don't buy fabric online because I'm a bit of a toucher. Plus I'm blessed to live near Fabric Depot. I know some people here have ordered fabric through them. Check their calender and wait for one of their famous 40% off sales (about every 6 weeks). If you can't wait, they have 30% off sales even more often. The quality is good and the selection is dreamy. I've had good luck finding fabric on ebay.

    Some other sites:

So what are you making? :)

Lol, I have no idea. I have grand ideas and still have to get my mom's sewing machine figured out. My sis and I have threaded the bobbin (sp?) according to the directions and still the machine acts up and comes undone when we start to sew. I have to get it to the shop but that means going without kids since I 'd have to park a bit away and lug it inside.
My first project is a taggie blanket for my little tag monster. Then I hope to embellish some of my prefolds. Then I'd like to make some curtains for the playroom and brig's room....he he.

The people at www.patternreview.com will be happy to recommend a source for any fabric you want -- but it's a lot easier if you have some idea what you want! I've ordered from sewbaby.com for baby stuff (ribbing, knits, patterns) keepsakequilters.com for printed cottons (love love love their selection) and syfabrics.com for pure frivolity cheap (my good deed for the week -- invested $20 in 10 yards of assorted sequined fabric, added some velvet for waistbands, and made 8 sequined toddler skirts for DD's daycare. Oh the joy and the dancing! And this leaves me about 7 yards of sequins for other purposes).

Hey Trish, head over to www.sewingworld.com. They have a great fabric section that will give you all kinds of places to shop online, both inexpensive and terribly expensive.

    Default Taggie blanket?

I read this thread since I am intersted in getting started with sewing. My my m-i-l just gave me her sewing machine---She does't know how to use it and it must be 15 years old...

    What's a taggie blanket?
ETA: I saw the other explanation of the taggie blanket--never mind

I bought a fish that had tag-like fabric "scales," but the baby didn't care for it. He loves tags on everything else though.

I really like fabric.com. Their prices are already cheaper than retail and if you sign up for emails they are always having sales. If you live in the Atlanta area, you can go to their office and get a sample. Or, they will mail one to you for a few dollars. Very large sample too- one square foot.
