    No Cook Play Dough
    1 cup white flour
    1/2 cup salt
    2 T vegetable oil
    1 t alum
    food coloring
    1/2 cup water
Mix first 4 ingredients. Add food coloring to water. Gradually add small amounts of water until mixture gets consistency of bread dough. You may not need the whole 1/2 cup water. Store in airtight container or plastic bag. (if you can't find alum in grocery store, try drugstore)

    Stove-top play dough
    1 cup white flour
    1/4 cup salt
    2 T cream of tartar
    1 cup water
    1 t food coloring
    1 T vegetable oil
Mix flour, salt and cream of tartar in medium size pot. Add water, food coloring, and oil. Cook and stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Mixture will form a globby mess. When it forms a ball in the center of the pot, turn out and knead on a lightly floured surface. Store in airtight container or plastic bag.

here is the recipe I got from DD's preschool...

    2 C flour
    2 C water
    1 C salt
    1 C oil
    1/4 C cream of tarter
*add food coloring drop by drop until desired color is achieved

    1. mix all ingredients together in a saucepan
    2. cook on the lowest temp until the "mixture" becomes dough
    3. store in a disposable, airtight container

We made the microwave version of this. I want to mention that kneading isn't the best word the first few times. Mushing with your hands would be a better description. Also, if you wrap it in plastic it lasts for months. We've had ours probably six months now.

Also if you check out the Flubber recipe, that is a lot of fun also.

I am a teacher and I often color the water before I add it to the mixture. You can also use Kool Aid to color the water and it will also make you playdough small wonderful.
    Have fun!
