    Default Making receiving blankets

I plan to make my own receiving blankets. Do I just buy a length of flannel or fleece, cut it to size and hem it? What size blanket is best?

    TIA

    Default RE: Making receiving blankets

I made a couple of fleece blankets for E for daycare (which became his security blankets, although I hadn't intended for that!) I just bought a yard of fleece and cut it in half, so the size is 36" x 30" (I think the fleece was 60" wide). I didn't hem it, since it's fleece it won't unravel.

For flannel, I would just cut and hem. And probably bigger is better if you plan to use them for swaddling, but exactly how big I don't know. If you want to be economical in using the fabric, you'll probably be limited by the fabric width (that is, if you want to get 2 blankets per yard, for example).
