This is a link to an editorial in the March/April 2004 issue of Mothering Magazine titled, "The dastardly deeds of the AAP" It refers to the AAP's president writing a letter to Tommy Thompson blocking the launch of the National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign. We discussed the topic a little in my LLL group today, and there was discussion regarding the differences between the WHO and AAP breastfeeding recommendations and how the issues discussed in this article are likely a factor in why the recommendations are so different, and why the AAP isn't a fierce advocate of something so immeasurably beneficial to their patients.
I found it interesting reading, if nothing else.
