Default BF advocacy and the AAP

I just posted this info in the "it's unfortunate" thread but since that one is so long (RIGHTFULLY SO!) I thought I'd post this here as well.
    http://www.mothering.com/editorials/editorial123.shtml
This is a link to an editorial in the March/April 2004 issue of Mothering Magazine titled, "The dastardly deeds of the AAP" It refers to the AAP's president writing a letter to Tommy Thompson blocking the launch of the National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign. We discussed the topic a little in my LLL group today, and there was discussion regarding the differences between the WHO and AAP breastfeeding recommendations and how the issues discussed in this article are likely a factor in why the recommendations are so different, and why the AAP isn't a fierce advocate of something so immeasurably beneficial to their patients.

I found it interesting reading, if nothing else.

    Edit to fix typo!

Oh, geez... I missed that, too, although I had heard about the letter before. How sad and inexcusable.

It's really disheartening to think how many choices (or lack of) are being dictated by big business :(

What scares me is not even the choice stuff, but the HEALTH information that's being censored by big business. Yikes yikes yikes.
