If breast milk is too hot (used a warmer) to give to the baby, does it need to be discarded? Or can it be saved for another feeding?
Thanks!!

I always thought that once it has been warmed, then it should be either used immediately or discarded, but not re-warmed. Heartbreaking though that is! Sorry :(
I would just let it cool down and use it.

If it happens again, just dump some of the too hot breastmilk into another bottle and add cold breastmilk, shake, test and serve! You can probably use the leftover at the next feeding, but I wouldn't save it past then.

When I used to work in a neonatal ICU we used to take the frozen breastmilk in it's bag and place it in hot water to defrost. We used whatever milk was in the bag within 24 hours. Just kept it refrigerated, of course.
You should be able to use it later. kellymom.com has lots of very useful information, including some about storing and handling breastmilk.

Also, before DS was born, I learned somewhere that breastmilk should not be shaken, but it should be swirled around in the bottle. I can't remember if I heard this in the BFing class I attended or if I read it somewhere. Anyway, there's something about the reason on the kellymom site:

When DH or I give DS a bottle of EBM, we warm it under the tap (running hot water) or stick it in a cup of hot water. It doesn't get as hot as the bottle warmer at DS's daycare, but DS doesn't seem to mind and it doesn't really take any longer.
HTH!
