White nipples after nursing?

I've noticed that after I nurse my daughter the tip of my nipple is white, with some pain. After a few minutes it goes back to normal and doesn't hurt anymore. Has anyone else had this? We're still using the nipple shield, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

I used a nipple shield for 13 months, and I experienced it too. I switched to the Medela shields and the problem lessened. Never did figure out how to stop it completely. Congrats on breastfeeding!!

I also had this in the beginning. I think it's normal, just due to vasoconstriction of tiny vessels in the nipple. For me it was over after about 2 month of BF. I didn't use the breastshields.

I have something similar-although the bottom part of my nipples are white and the tops are purples after pumping-I was diagnosed with nipple vasospasm-the Kellysmom article speaks to that as well.

It's called Raynaud's syndrome. What helped me was to clamp my hand over my nipple as soon as she popped off so it didn't get cold. Then I could dry it off and keep it warm for a few minutes and then let go.
