Hi,

I just have to vent. I went to the dentist today with my 13 month old and was asking the dentist to look at his teeth b/c I'm paranoid about cavities since he still nurses at night. Anyhow, he told me I really shouldn't nurse any longer b/c ds's immune system is fine now and my nursing is really " a thing between me and ds" that needs to be resolved and then gave me a funny look. Now, I know the AAP recommends 2 yrs now and it's beneficial for ds to still nurse but i totally felt like i was a pervert. He was totally implying that i'm nursing for my pleasure. Uggghhh..... I just wish people were more educated. And he's in the medical field. Not like it's easy to keep nursing 13 months. Thanks for listening.

I think the only funny look that should've happened is the one you gave him after he implied that you were the pervert - obviously HE'S the one with the BF hang-up.

Shame on him!!! That's awful. Send him a copy of the AAP recs, the WHO recs, and the LLL info on extended breastfeeding. I agree with the PP-- he is the pervert in this scenario.

I'd send him a letter and take your business elsewhere. Include the reccomendations from AAP, printed from their site, as an attachment.
