Plastic bottle to mix formula question

DC#3 is still breastfeeding. I'm just thinking ahead when I return to work in the summer. I used to mix all of baby's bottle/formula in a Rubbermaid bottle for the entire day's worth. I then transfer them into individual bottle. I will be using the Born Free bottles. But, do you think it'll be okay to use the Rubbermaid plastic bottle to mix the formula? I think it's a #5 plastic. I would appreciate your advice.

I'd sure, why not. You could find a glass pitcher if you really were against using plastic altogether, but I personally think it's fine to use "safe" plastic. Rubbermaid also makes a quick-stir pitcher as well (#5 plastic).

How about the Dr. Brown's pitcher? We have it and is AWESOME! Mixes a big batch of formula in less then a minute. I'll be honest, tho, I haven't checked the plastic, I'm afraid its bad and I love it so much. Its on my list of things to look at.

I think #5 plastic is suppose to be a "safe" plastic. Do you mind check the bottom of the Dr. Brown pitcher to see what # of plastic it is? If you don't mind. How does the pitcher work? Do you move the blade around to mix the formula? How long does it take to mix a 32 oz batch? Any lumps?

Sorry, it doesn't have that info on the bottom. I wonder if I could call the company and ask...If I find out I'll post again.

How does it work? You just fill the pitcher with the amount of water you want, add the formula and push the handle up and down. It uses a plastic blade type thing to create an eddy, which mixes the formula. It takes less then 2 minutes to mix 32 oz. It is TOTALLY worth it.

Both the Dr. Browns Pitcher and Pampered Chef are #7 (unsafe polycarbonate plastic).

*Note: there are a few things that are #7 which don't contain BPA, but the majority of them do. You would have to check with individual manufactures. I know that Gerber baby food containers is one instance of #7 not contain the yucky chemical.

OH, man, I LOVE that pitcher and I am doing so many other things to get rid of bad plastics. Where did you find the info? I could find it and I was hoping it was ok. ;(
Just to clarify, tho, these plastics are bad ALL the time, right, or just when heated? B/c I never heat the pitcher, obviously, just store it in the fridge.

I remember reading that the pitcher was made out of the same plastic as the bottles (which is #7). You can easily tell as well just by looking at it. I'd say 99% of all the clear-glass looking type plastic (Avent, Dr. Browns, Britta Pitcher, etc.) is going to be #7 plastic. It is very distinct in how it looks.

And no, it's not just when it's heated. It's also when it is scratched at all (say with a scrubby sponge, the mixing wand, or anything like that), and justin general over time it breaks down into the liquid and food that it contains. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Really, check out the #5 Rubbermaid pitcher. I'll bet you'll like it! My Target and Walmart both sell it:
