    Lisa -
The way you have it first should work with straight brackets around the whole thing.

Reply to this message with your attempt and click on 'Check here if you want to format your message in plain text.' That way I can see exactly what you're trying.

ETA: Thanks for letting me know what it's called! :)

    Here's exactly what I typed

    [link:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000I8A3/qid=1101934871/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/102-8419737-8670501|John Lithgow Singing]

This is what I get: http://tinyurl.com/6krfz Of course the link doesn't work. Come to think of it, the link you used in your example didn't work for me, either! It took me to a Microsoft page.

I did check and see if this is a Mozilla issue--but have had no more luck with IE.

    Thanks again!

You're right, mine didn't work. :( I just updated it and took out the ' http:// ' and it worked. Try just starting with www.

Default Yay! Now, how to do this in email??

    [link:www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000I8A3/qid=1101934871/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/102-8419737-8670501|John Lithgow Singing]

    Trying this again....

Cool! I finally got it to work for me---I was trying to type this string into the tinyurl.com entry box. No wonder it wouldn't work!!

So, I assume that this little trick works here because of the message format of these boards....Does anyone know how to make this trick work to produce a 'nick-named' link that I could put in an email?

    and, thanks again, Mary!

    Yay Lisa!!!!

As far as e-mail, if html is allowed in the recipients e-mail, I think it should work. You can try sending a test message to me at mary_harling at yahoo dot com.
