secret to clear avatar pic??

When I crop my pics they look clear till I post them. Then they look funky. Some member's avatars look crystal clear. Can anyone give me an idea of what I'm doing wrong? or what to do right? TIA--

I'm not sure if you corrected the problem since your post, but your pic looks clear to me.
