Default Time between ceremony and reception

We're planning to have an afternoon ceremony (around 2pm) because we do not want it to be super formal. But, we'd like to have an evening reception with dancing, etc...What should we do about the time in between? The reception might not start until 5pm or so...

i think that's possible. you'll just have to inform your guests about it. you can put it on the invitation too.

I was just at a wedding where they had a 4 hour gap between the ceremony and reception. It was not too bad but we were visiting from out of town and were not really sure what to do with ourselves for that time. If you do go with the gap between the ceremony and reception try to make suggestions for what guests could do in that time period. We ended up finding a sculpture park and wandering around and it was great, but it would have been nice to have a few suggestions of nearby places instead of figuring it out ourselves.
