I don't mean like pawning, but selling old or estate jewelry to a jeweler or gold buyer. I inherited a ring years ago which is just not my thing (the ring was made of other gold jewelry that had been melted down and remodeled into a very broad band with 3 semi-precious stones) and it has been sitting in my jewelry box ever since. It was appraised years ago, before the spike in gold prices, so I am thinking it might be worth a sizable amount today. I am just wondering if anyone here has sold jewelry in this fashion? Any tips/ideas? A friend has suggested selling it to an estate jeweler - which I am also considering.

Oh, and I posted this here as I'm not sure if buying gold etc is a different process in the US so I figured I'd try for some Canadian input on this!

TIA!
