For those of you who are sick of registering or shopping expensive specialty or big box registries this is a great alternative. The ALTERNATIVE GIFT Registry at the New American Dream site allows you to set up, and register for gifts from multiple stores, you can provide links, pictures or just describe what you want! It allows you to ask for homemade items or stae that you are okay with gently used items. It's great for the reccession. As an added bonus you can communicate as much as you want.

Interesting. As I've been listing items on my registry I've been feeling guilty because I wouldn't pay retail prices for a lot of the things, so why should my friends and family? Do you have first hand experience with the Alternative Gift Registry or know someone who does? Did friends and family actually use the registry?
