I am trying to order something online and the page where I enter my cc info doesn't have a lock symbol or turn green in the website addy line to indicate that it is secure but the addy does start with https://. Is this safe? I thought I had seen this discussed here previously but I don't seem to be able to find the right search terms to find it! TIA!

yes - it means the website utilizes "secure sockets layer" and any information transferred between you and the site is encrypted.
