Default infant ear infection--breastmilk as a cure?

My 3-month old breastfed DS has a minor ear infection (redness only, no bulging) in one ear after getting a cold. His ped. prescribed antibiotics, but I've heard that a few drops of breastmilk in the affected ear works just as well if not better, w/o the side affects--waterier stools, possible thrush for DS & me. He has only had a low-grade fever, <100.4 rectally. Sleeping more than usual, eating more frequently but less quantity, but still smiles when prompted.

Has anyone tried breastmilk in the ear? I'd love to hear your results. TIA

It can't hurt to try. I know mamas who have used breastmilk on wounds, eczema and things like pink eye. So, it wouldn't surprise me if it would help an ear infection too.
