    Default Mattress ventilation holes necessary?

I'm shopping for crib mattresses for our Munire Essex crib now. I think I will go with coil. Some of the mattresses don't have ventilation holes on the sides. Are these really necessary? The child is only going to use the crib for a few years anyway. My husband and I have had a very expensive mattress on our bed that ended up being sub-par so I'm apprehensive about spending a lot on a baby mattress for features that won't even be noticable to a child!
    Thanks for your advice!

    Default

i have the same crib (Munire Essex). I didn't know about ventilation holes. I was going to get a coil one (or a dual-sided one) until I saw them in the store and saw how heavy they were. I ended up buying a soybean foam mattress from Sealy (i think it was $150) which was very lightweight (yet firm), so i figured would make changing easier. Initially we were worried about the mattress fitting properly (too much room) but when we got it yesterday it fits perfectly in the crib.
