I think Patrick is a great Irish name for boys.

I am partial to Finn of course too.

My name is Eilise pronounced A-lish
Eilás - (AY-lish or I-lish) "consecrated to God". Eilise, Eilish, Elizabeth.

VERY Irish name, but VERY rare!

It also depends on if they want a common or very unique name....

    And don't forget about:
    Shawn
    Michael
Padraig (the old Irish spelling of Patrick)
Breandan (Irish spelling of Brandon; usually has a little accent mark on the last a, I think)
Brian (with the little accent mark I can't find on this keyboard; Irish pronunciation is "Bree-un")
    Rory
    Seamus

Some of these may be repeats--sorry! Part of my graduate school work is through an Irish studies institute, so I'm just mentally scrolling through some of my professors' first names :-)

I'll come back if I think of any more

My husband is Seamus and his brother is Rory My neices have Gaelic names with traditional spellings (Maeve & Siobhan, pronounced Sha-von) and in the family we have an Ailis (pronounced Aye-lish like pp mentioned), Kieran, Aiden, Padraig (Gaelic for Patrick), and lots of Johns, Pauls, Patricks and Michaels Our boys are James and Sean, so not so unusual.

The coolest "new" Irish name I've heard (from Irish relatives, so not sure if it's a really old name or a name that's just become popular) is Thaigh...not 100% sure how it's spelled but pronounced like Tie-g.

the spelling is the one that i showed, taidhg. there are probably variations in spelling, like many irish names. had a student several years ago. love the name, love the student.
