    Default Kindle warranty?

I got my DH a kindle and just got the email about the extended warranty. I can't decide if its worth the extra $65. Has anyone actually had to use the extra 2 yr warranty?

I would get the warranty. It covers 1 drop. My stepdad recently dropped his and the entire Kindle broke (he didn't have the warranty), unfixable, so while Amazon offered a refurb/used Kindle at a significant discount, it was still more than double the warranty cost. I haven't checked, but I wonder if some place like SquareTrade offers warranty on Kindles for a cheaper price.

ETA I'm not normally one who advocates for extended warranties as I think most of the time you don't end up using them and they are where they make the most money.

I would consider it. I dropped my Kindle and like the previous poster's step dad it broke and I had to get a refurbished replacement. I adore my Kindle but they are not super durable. I drop my Blackberry all.the.time and it's no worse for the wear. I dropped my Kindle once and it was toast.

That reminds me. Blackberries have a rubber casing you can use to minimize drop damage. Does a Kindle have such an option?

Thanks, I should probably get the warranty. DH has dropped his cell phone many times, that insurance definitely pays for itself!

I've used mine. It was in a case but it hit the floor completely wrong (the tip of one corner met a tile floor) so the corner of the screen messed up. I lived with it for awhile to get the novelty of it out of my daughters' system before I replaced it. The replacement was painless. I called them. They sent out a new one overnight and I sent the old one back.
