    Default Melissa & Doug RECALL

    http://cpsr-rspc.hc-sc.gc.ca/PR-RP/r....jsp?re_id=889

We have the shape sorter and the peg thingy.

I called today and they are sending me the birthday cake stead as a replacement. No word on whether I send the recalled items back or not. Very nice cs too. Said that the toys are safe and that barium is used in medical procedures. Apparently, they meet US standards, but not Canadian ones.

Ugh. We have the pound-a-peg and I just gave two of the cookie sets away as birthday gifts recently. So now I have to call the moms and say "um, sorry about that, but I gave your kid a tainted toy." Great.

ETA: I just re-read and saw that it was a Canadian recall, but I still feel obligated to tell the moms. DS doesn't really play with the pound-a-peg, so no big loss, I guess.

Yeah, I know I guess something about the phrase "all batches" makes me feel very uncomfortable. As always, you guys are way ahead of us on safety.

Oh, I definitely wouldn't say that. Health Canada has NO POWER TO EFFECT A RECALL. All "recalls" in Canada are completely voluntary on the part of the manufacturer. Yes, you read that correctly. VOLUNTARY. WTF?

Many recalls here only happen after public outcry that Canadian lives are at risk b/c of a recall in the US and not in Canada. The Maclaren stroller recall is a recent example of that.

We have the shape sorter and my mom just bought DD the slice and bake cookie set for her bday in 2 weeks. I even purged *most* of our M&D stuff after the MIC fiascos, but kept the shape sorter.

So you are saying Canada has lower allowable limit for barium then? Ugggh. I wouldn't care as much if we didn't have another little one on the way that could end up mouthing the big kid toys, kwim?

Argh! Thanks for posting. We have the shape sorter. No idea when I bought it, or where, but probably at Chapters online. I guess I'll fill out the forms even though DS doesn't really play with it anymore. Did you get to choose what you wanted as a replacement, or is it a standard one-thing-fits-all offer?
