Madame Alexander doll vs others

I just couldn't justify spending the $ on an American Girl doll this year so I'm looking at the Madame Alexander dolls or the Our Generation dolls from Target.

Anyone have any opinions on these? I didn't see any reviews on the Alexander dolls on amazon which surprised me. I heard the hair was bad on the target ones but that was just what one person said. There seems to be more selection of dolls with the Alexander dolls.

This is for an 8yr old girl so she would take care of it, but I still want to get the better "knock off" one. If you've had a good or bad experience with either I'd like to hear.

I have a nice collection of madame alexander dolls,
they are much more dainty than the american girl dolls- - not as easy to play with them, change their clothes, etc but they are so beautiful. Each one is a piece of art. - and by the way, they were around long before american girl... no knock off!
