Default Hearst Castle with a 6 year old - yay or nay?

Would Hearst Castle be an interesting place for a 6 year old to visit? DH and I have never been and would like to go but are concerned that it won't hold DS' attention so we won't be able to enjoy it either. We are about an hour drive from it in Morro Bay as we head to San Diego.

Depends....generally NAY although we enjoyed it but we didn't have any children with us. The children that were there did look bored, but it may depend on your tour guide. The guide told us that the banquet room was used in the Harry Potter movies, if your DS is into that. The ticket was $24 per adult a few years ago, haven't checked since then. It's expensive if your DS doesn't enjoy it. It can get long and he has to be relatively quiet so you can hear the tour guide.

He might prefer looking at the elephant seals on the beach instead. Kids seemed to enjoy that and it's free.

Thank you for your feedback, you made me feel better. We decided to skip it since both DH and DS were much Moro interested in fishing. It is still $24 per adult and $12 for a child over 6 years old so not cheap and 1 hour drive the other way from where we were heading. Maybe next time.
