Default Helping pregnant relative w/o insurance

My uncle married a lovely Filipino girl last August. He did not/does not have a job with health insurance and despite everyone telling him to, he never purchased any. Now she's 13 weeks pregnant, no insurance, not much money (he has no savings and is working as a substitute teacher).

To complicate matters some, my uncle remembers signing some form when she came to the U.S. that he would cover all her medical expenses and she would not be a burden to the state. He thinks this means she isn't eligible for any of the state resources out there.

Does that sound right? Would that also preclude her from other aid (like through the hospital directly or not-for-profits)? Anyone know any resources in Southeast Michigan that we could look into? I want to help her find help, but don't know where to start!

Could Planned Parenthood help? They might know the answers to those questions, too.
