    Default recommendations of comebacks

my DS and I were at a potluck earlier today, and one mom there made a comment about me, "You look sooo tired." Not to mention, she asked whether my pearl necklace was genuine which I thought was kind of rude. I told her it was a gift from a good friend and left it at that. She knows that I'm expecting, so really, I didn't know how to respond to her observation about my being tired. Okay, I get that she thought I looked crappy, but it really isn't all that unusual to feel tired in the midst of having nausea 24-7.

Just wondering if you have any witty comebacks for comments like this. Thank you!

This isn't that witty, but the first thing that comes to my mind is "thanks, so do you".

    hahaha

My first (definitely not nice) thought was, "Must be from talking to you."

The nicer thought was something like, "Thanks, it's The New Look, all the moms have it these days!" (Under breath: "Bitch.")

Hmmm, that seems to make both my ideas not nice!

I like both your suggestions. Thank you. The first one I can especially relate with -- I was getting tired just by talking to her. I've read about some people who can be real energy drainers, and I think I just met one at the potluck.

Ok, that is just brilliant in its simplicity! I don't know why people feel the need to tell other people they look tired....rude!

In a very drawn out, lazy voice, "it's the company".

As for the necklace, how rude!!!! I'd be tempted to say, "I was going to ask you the same question about your breasts!"

DISCLAIMER: I wouldn't have the guts to say either

I agree. I can't say I didn't try not to look tired -- I wore make-up for the first time in awhile this week and I guess the eyeshadow/concealer trick didn't work.

I think this mom was in a particularly nasty mood, since she made the comment about my necklace in the same conversation.
