I just wanted to add that he never gagged from putting food in his mouth. It's always a forced gag, where he puts his hand in his mouth.

he has had patches of eczema on and off, but i've never known exactly why. and when i've asked the pedi, she kind of brushed it off... admittedly, it was never terribly acute

however, when i tried to introduce whole milk about 2-3 weeks ago, the skin stuff flared. he got very red, scaly cheeks and chin. and lots of patches on his arms/legs. and that was just with offering two ounces of milk for two days in a row. i brought him to the doc and she said put him on soy. so now we're on soy. i don't see the same skin reaction with the soy

i'm at such a loss. i'm really pinning all my hopes on some answers from the EI eval b/c i don't know who else to ask.

i talked to the pedi about the gagging back in march when we were in the office for a sick visit. and she said, "oh...that's odd...i bet he's teething." i asked her why teething would make him gag and try to vomit and she didn't answer

i brought it up again during the one year visit and she said she was going to check his mouth and throat, but he really didn't let her look inside - he totally flipped out when she tried. and it just didn't go anywhere after that

so now, i don't know who to ask... what kind of specialist do you go to when your kid makes himself gag and vomit?!

    do i try an allergist?
Yes, given this history I would definitely get some recommendations for a GOOD pediatric allergist (don't just go to anyone--there are too many practitioners out there not worth seeing IME). Give a detailed history of his reflux, eczema, aversions, gagging, etc. She will test your DC for food and environmental allergens and go from there. You may also end up seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist. Again, definitely get a recommendation for a good specialist. I don't know where you are, but there are some very excellent doctors I can recommend if you are interested.
