I have a top loading washing machine with an agitator. I have never used the fabric softener dispenser. The machine is 6 yrs old. I looked in it the other day and its got a ton of mold. How do I clean it. I attempted to unscrew the top, but mine must not unscrew. Anyone have any advice. It's completely gross.

bleach in a few empty cycles maybe? No ideas otherwise.

Mine doesn't unscrew, but it has a plastic ring that you pull upward on to release the entire fabric softener dispenser piece. When I stopped using softener, I soaked the dispenser unit in vinegar for a couple days and that made most of the residue break up. If you've got mold I'd definitely fill it with bleach and let it sit even if you can't completely remove it.
