Default Apple TV, need reviews -- looking for a birthday present for DH

I'm looking for a present for DHs birthday, and can't think of much. I remember hearing about Apple TV, but don't know anything about it. Any opinions? I just gave him a nook for Xmas, so the IPad is out. I don't know how well the Apple TV works with cable boxes, etc... Is it worth it to have if we have full cable and DVR?

    Any other gift suggestions?

    TIA

We got one as a gift a few weeks ago, so I am still trying to figure it out! We have HDTV and DVR through Verizon. The apple tv thingy is a fun toy - we mostly use it to watch YouTube videos for my son :-) You can buy movies, tv series etc through iTunes but I think it's kind of expensive - more so than buying things on DVD. Then again, you wouldn't have a lot of DVDs cluttering up your house...so if your hubby likes to buy movies, not just rent them, it might be fun for him.

Thanks, Pepper. Well DH is not into movies. He watches one once in a blue moon. He likes documentaries, but I am not sure what the selection is or how often he would watch. So I'm guessing this is not a good gift idea for him.

I guess I need to think of something else.

We love our Apple TV, but we do spend a ton of money on iTunes buying or renting movies and TV shows. We don't have a Netflix option, though, so the extra cost for having movies on demand seems worth it. I think it would be overkill if we had a DVR too, though.

Do you have oneof those mini-HD camcorders? I bought a Vado one on sale through Costoco online a couple months ago and I love it. It came with an HD cable so we can plug it directly into the tv. I think Flip video is another brand.
