What a mean thing to do to little kids. Spellbound and hypnotized are BOTH synonyms of mesmerized. Might want to get that teacher a dictionary

"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world." ~Jack Layton
I would say spellbound OR hypnotized! Are they by chance preparing for the NCLB testing?

OT but I learned about Mesmer from Amanda Quick! It's amazing what we can learn from reading fluff!
I chose hypnotized due to the Mesmer fact.
eta: I remember in elementary school being given a test and told to read all the questions and instructions before beginning. The instruction at the bottom said to merely put your name on the test and turn the page over. I think this was in 5th or 6th grade though, I don't remember trick questions before that.
eta again: I'm pretty sure I learned about Mesmer from Amanda Quick, but think it was reinforced by recent reading of Molly Moon.
