B'day party invite question

How far in advance do you send out invites? DS's bday is about 5 weeks after his school finishes. I am thinking we will invite his class. Would you drop invites in cubbies before school lets out (aka 5 weeks before the party)? Is that too soon? I could also mail them.

I've usually done 3 weeks in advance. My kids birthdays are in October
near Halloween and in November right before Thanksgiving. People are
super busy in the fall especially with school having just started back and
the holidays all lined up each month. It's hard finding a free weekend and
when I do, I grab it and let everyone know asap. Asap for me is 3 weeks
in advance. But I do let close friends know even further in advance.

I did ds1's about 4 weeks ahead of time this year b/c summer gets so busy that I wanted to get it on people's calendars + I wanted to know if lots of people would be on vacation. I might invite extra people if I get a lot of people unable to come so he has a decent turn out. Normally I do 3 weeks though. I'm still trying to figure out what works best in the summer. I didn't invite the whole class so I mailed them.

DD's birthday is always Memorial Day weekend. I do her party the Friday night OR the Sunday of the weekend BEFORE Memorial Day weekend, figuring most people have family commitments on Mem Day. Summer fills up so quick that I send them out 4-5 weeks in advance. I do the same at Beth; if I get a lot of "No thank you"s, I will invite other friends.
