Looking for an alternative to the Gulf Coast for a long-weekend getaway with the family. Any advice or experience with the above-mentioned?
I know the Atlantic isn't the Gulf, so I'm already managing my expectations in terms of sand and water.
I'm most interested in lodging options, as I am looking for a suite or separate sleeping for the children.

I've been to Jekyll and Amelia. I can't remember where I stayed, but from what I remember, Amelia is pricier.

i've only been to Jekyll Island before, for a wedding. it was really nice. Didn't seem too pricey. I went there before I had DS though, so i can't speak for the kid-friendliness in accomodations etc.
