I thought I was probably imagining things when I woke up to my house shaking, but no, it was an earthquake.

I had just woken up at that time and was in the bathroom brushing my teeth. It totally surprised me. DH actually woke up from it and we were trying to figure out what it was. I can't believe that there was a earthquake in MD.
Oh yeah! I'm in Anne Arundel County and it was loud! I was half asleep and thinking, well this feels like an earthquake but we're in Maryland...

Heck yeah. I heard a loud bang (I'm in Rockville about 5 or 6 miles from where they say the epicenter was). My house shook, my furniture moved a bit and the house creaked for about an hour afterwards (odd).

So I was right! I've never experienced an earthquake, but it was the first conclusion my sleepy brain came to. It woke me up, but everyone else slept through it, including the dog. I decided I must have been dreaming because animals are supposed to be so sensitive to this stuff! And the pictures on the walls are still hanging straight. How weird!

Nope, did not wake up. I don't know if it came as low as Fairfax.
I'm in Fairfax too and didn't wake up.
Yep, it woke me up! I was very confused, but awake enough to look at the clock and note the time so when I woke up again I could check the news and see what happened. It didn't startle me enough to keep me awake, though. As soon as the shaking stopped I passed out again!
It woke DH up, too, but all the kids slept through it. Now when I say, "They could sleep through and earthquake" I'll know it's true!
I did not wake up
DH did

DH and I both woke up and we live quite a ways from Gaithersburg. My initial thought was that the Capitol had been bombed (we're less than 5 miles away), then I thought that the medical helicopter for the nearby trauma center was trying to land on our roof....then DH mumbled "earthquake?"....
