Fabric Paint for handprints?

I want to make an apron for my dad for Christmas with DD's handprints. I was looking at Michaels for fabric paint and there are so many choices! What type of fabric paint should I use for a handprint project? The puffy fabric paint doesn't seem right, but is that what we should use?

Would a Tempera paint wash off? I did hand & foot prints on canvas and used those. But I wouldn't wash those so I didn't bother to check if it would wash off....
