HELP!! Ultimate diaper rash remedies

We tried various kinds of diaper creams when DS (now 3) was younger and thought Weleda worked best.

Weleda and lots of naked time.

i really like burt's bees diaper ointment.

the nurse at our pediatrician (JACKIE, kiss, kiss) has a secret recipe:
1 tube on balmex (4oz or so)
1 tsp of maalox
squirt of hydro-cortisone cream
squirt of triple antibiotic

i put it in a round ziploc container and whip it up with a fork. it will clear a diaper rash quicker than you can blink an eye. i remember when the nurse gave me the recipe, i was SURE it wouldn't work. boy was i wrong. amazing concoction.

i also second the lotrimin af (if it's a yeast infection).

If it's really bad--it might need lotrimin and/or antibiotic. I put a zinc barrier cream over that (any kind with 40% zinc).

Mix together...

1/2 tube Desitin
1/2 tube A&D Ointment
1 Tablespoon Maalox
1 Tablespoon Bacitracin (for when rash is bleeding)
OR
1 Tablespoon Lotrimin (for when rash is yeast'ish)

We've been known to put both Bacitracin and Lotrimin in if it's a bleeding yeasty rash. Store in an airtight container.

Generics are fine but we've found it to be a little thinner and runny. We just practically "paint" kiddos bottom with it and put the diaper on.

It's a "butt cream" recipe from the local children's hospital. We can get it mixed by a pharmacist locally but I just found out the ingredients and mixed it myself.

How do you know when a rash is yeastish? My NB has a red raised ring around his anus, but it isn't bloody. I just can't seem to get rid of it bc he poops so often.

Triple Paste was the only cream that would work for the bleeding rashes the little girl I used to nanny for would get. Her skin was so sensitive.

DD is almost 9 months and has never really had a diaper rash, but I use Beaudroux's Butt Paste (sp) at each change.

I guess it is a good preventative creme to stop rash before it starts.

I remember trying the Maalox recipe in a moment of despairation! We have used the Desitin Overnight cream (I think it's 40% ZO??) along with Aquafor and Triple paste, in varying layers (not usually mixed altogether), depending on the situation.

And definitely some naked time.... that helps to get air on the bum!
