Is it possible to conceive if you have intercourse on cycle day 8 and your cycle is regular 31 days?

Yes, absolutely. I have 28-31 day cycles and frequently ovulate around day 11. Sperm can live up to 5-7 days in good conditions (presence of mucus).

Thanks. I used to consider those safe days atleast until cycle day 10. Wonder how NFP works for some people?

Well in my case, mucus starts during my period, so that starts the fertile time. I know that my cutoff is cycle day 3, until 4 days after ovulation. NFP works great for me! It just requires a lot of abstinence.

I don't know of any NFP methods where using days 8, 9, 10 and beyond would be considered safe for most people. If someone has much longer cycles, then their fertile signs would start much later and they'd be able to use those late days. But on an off cycle where they might ovulate earlier, they'd have signs earlier. It's best to not rely on the calendar -- that's where someone can get into trouble.

Like PP's said, it depends on when you ovulate. NFP or FAM are based on knowing how to identify signs of fertility, and knowing when you ovulate (I usually ovulate around day 18-19 and my cycle is 31 days, so for me day 8 is safe.)

We were using our calendar to stay away from fertile days because I'm able to feel when I ovulate and it's exactly when the calendars say that I should in my cycle. Our oops just happened though, and it was because we were in the throws of passion and didn't even think about what time of the month it was. Whoops! LOL!

Yeah same here, Usually I get bad cramps on the day so I mark in the calendar and we don't have relations about 3 days prior to the date and this time it was 5 days before and I'm about 9 weeks prego.

I thought I ovulate after the 14th day, so day 8 was early and safe. Turns out I was wrong... just got a +ve hpt last week, I am 5 weeks along
