Default Feeding chocolate to 1 year old

I am having DD's 1st birthday cake made and it's chocolate with chocolate ganache (what can I say, I chocolate). Is it okay to let DD go at a slice? She's never had chocolate because I thought I read somewhere that chocolate is highly allergenic and should be given at a later age.

I'm curious, too, because I gave my older son a huge piece of chocolate cake for his first birthday, and planned to do the same again in couple of weeks.

I think that kids can be allergic but it isn't very common. They're more likely to be allergic to something else in the cake. You might want to try a smaller amount of chocolate a few days in advance just to be sure there isn't any sort of reaction.

Yum! We had chocolate cake at all of DC's 1st birthdays and they tolerated it just fine. Very messy, though!!!

I did vegan chocolate cupcakes for my girls' 1st birthdays and a vegan yellow cupcake w/chocolate icing for DS's. They were all fine!

We did chocolate icing for DS's bday. I let him try it earlier in the week when I made the practice cake and he had no problems, so I didn't worry. Plus, he really didn't eat that much of the cake anyway - just played mostly.
